What is an IPL photofacial?

Individuals who are concerned about the look of sun damage or pigmentation in their complexion may be excellent candidates for intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy at Signature Wellness. An IPL photofacial is a rejuvenating skin treatment for hyperpigmentation and other skin concerns on the neck and face. Founder and owner Allyson Terrell, CRNA, uses intense pulses of light to set off the natural healing process and boost the production of collagen. In time, you should begin to notice a healthier complexion, a more even tone, and fewer dark spots. Even though a photofacial is a noninvasive process, it can be very effective and can produce great results for your complexion. Our Saline, MI team uses the next-generation Harmony XL PRO laser from Alma to perform IPL photofacials and can provide a skin consultation to determine if this option can help you reach your skin goals.

am i a candidate for an IPL photofacial?

An IPL photofacial reaches the deeper layers of your skin to improve many complexion blemishes (especially sun spots and brown lesions) with little or no downtime. Candidates for an IPL photofacial at Signature Wellness will have many concerns with their complexion, such as sun damage, rosacea, hyperpigmentation (brown spots), rough texture, large pores, flushing, freckles, sun and age spots, or broken capillaries. A member of our team will assess your complexion to see if you are a candidate for a photofacial at your initial consultation.

An IPL photofacial can be completed inside our Saline, MI office in about 20 – 30 minutes in one of our treatment rooms if performed as a standalone procedure. To prepare for the photofacial, your technician will wash and dry your skin before covering your eyes with special shields. The IPL is administered using a handheld device that will pass over the skin while emitting light energy pulses. Although patients may have some discomfort throughout the IPL photofacial, it's usually very tolerable given the short treatment time.

Allyson is incredibly professional and knows her stuff. She walked me through the aftercare multiple times without even the slightest frustration. Every question I had she answered with detail. Her space is beautiful and calming. I’m loving my results too!!!

What Can I Expect After An IPL Photofacial?

With no recovery time associated with an IPL. You will leave our office with your complexion a little swollen and pink. This will go away on its own in several hours — it may be concealed with makeup if you prefer. Signature Wellness advises you keep a cream on the skin to decrease any irritation and promote healing. It may also help to use an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine to ease swelling. After 2 – 5 days, the sun damage and other irregularities under the skin will rise to the surface skin layers and then begin to flake away. It's important to keep your skin protected with sunscreen at all times after a photofacial treatment and to not pick at your skin. While you will see some visible results after your first treatment, your complexion will attain the best results after several IPL treatments. Allyson suggests approximately 3 – 6 treatments performed every four weeks at Signature Wellness.

You probably didn't worry too much about your skin when you were young, but once environmental damage like spots and other concerns start developing, you now may be interested in procedures that can refresh and revitalize your skin. We invite you to learn more about IPL photofacials in Saline, MI by contacting our team at Signature Wellness and scheduling a skin consultation with Allyson Terrell, CRNA, or a member of her team. With IPL photofacial treatments, we can go deep within the layers of skin to help bring back a youthful glow and a healthy complexion.

About Us
How much does an IPL photofacial cost?

Your skin is unique, so your cost for a photofacial will depend on your specific concerns. Signature Wellness runs specials on treatments, like IPL therapy, at times, and we take an array of convenient payment methods. During your initial consultation, your technician can help estimate your cost and recommend the number of visits needed to help you reach your goals.

How quick are the results from IPL photo therapy?

Visible improvements can often be experienced after your Harmony XL Pro IPL session, but optimal results can be seen a month after all of your treatments are done. It is common for patients to respond differently to each treatment session. You should have a gradual improvement in blotchiness, redness, and spots (age, brown, and sun) as time goes on.

What are the possible side effects of IPL?

Most women and men notice minor side effects, such as temporary redness, swelling, crusting, bruising, or blisters. These symptoms naturally subside within a day or two after the procedure. The treated areas will be extra sensitive to the sun, and you should keep in mind that sun exposure will affect the results of the procedure. Whenever you go outside, you should always wear sunscreen to protect your skin and help avoid skin damage, including redness and sun spots.

Do I need to prep for an IPL photofacial?

Saline, MI patients about to undergo an IPL treatment are typically asked to skip sun exposure and self-tanners for about 2 – 4 weeks before their appointment. You should stop using certain medications and topical creams, like Retin-A, a few days prior to your treatment and will likely need to avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood thinners for 5 – 7 days before the appointment to decrease your risk of developing bruises. You should also use sun protection (like a hat and sunscreen) since your skin will be extra sensitive.

Why should I get multiple IPL photofacial sessions?

Multiple IPL treatments are better to provide natural-looking enhancements in the quality of your skin. Every session will help to diminish spots and other surface irregularities. Several sessions also produce longer-lasting aesthetic results.
